WOTW - the War starts HERE!

Greetings Earthlings

I'm Leon Tan, one of the producers of "War of the Worlds: Goliath", which means that if things go well I get a pat on the back and a cookie, and if things don't go too well, my head'll be on a pike by morning.

In other words, "producer" is another word for "the guy in the red shirt" for all you Trekkers ...

Just thought I'd post this thread and see what happens.

As our little project unfolds, we'd love to hear from fans of sci-fi and steampunk and frakking blowing stuff up ... spill it all out here.

Advice, comments, tidbits, snide remarks, anything. We're man enough. We can take it. As long as our attorneys vet your notes. Heh, no seriously. Bring it on. But remember, we've got Heat Rays ... smiling smiley

And a quick but sincere note of thanks to the brave souls from the US, Korea and Malaysia - literally a "tripod of talent" from Los Angeles, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur - who've put aside a couple of years of their lives for this insane idea of a Martian-Earthling deathmatch set in an alternative 1914 steampunk New York.

So to Kevin Eastman, Joe Pearson, David Abramowitz, Mike Bloemendal; our amazing voice cast; our dedicated & determined animation studio Sun Min Image Pictures (Seoul); the mercurial pre-production prodigies at Studio Climb (KL); the audio gods of Imaginex Studios (KL) helming voice direction, music scoring and sound design; and post-production wizards BaseCamp Films (KL) and Vitello Post (LA). And a special thank you to MAVCAP and MDeC. You know who you are!

So - fire away, fellas.

Leon

I'm looking forward to this. I love the whole premise of it and I believe it will be a success. Any word on a release date?

Hi Daddy O,

We're aiming for Feb 2010. But we'll see. There's still quite a lot to achieve production-wise and so forth, but we are on track for the most part.

We hope to cut a trailer in time for San Diego Comic-Con 2009, and YEP, we'll be at the Heavy Metal booth to promote the movie.

Keep you guys posted ...

Leon

Hi I'm Joey D'Auria and I'll be playing Captain Manfred Von Richthoffen (A.K.A The Red Baron). I've got to tell you . . . everything I've seen so far looks really fabulous. The art work is incredible and the plot is a great sequel to the classic G.H. Wells story . . . I had a great time being a part of cast

Personally, I've always been a huge fan of the STEAM-PUNK genre . . . so I'm really looking forward seeing the upcoming trailer. Oh . . . and Leon? Try and squeeze the Red Baron in the trailer someplace... will you?

No worries Joey. The Baron will definitely be a great character in the movie - as for the trailer, it depends on whether his scenes are ready by the time we cut this first trailer - we have a deadline since we're announcing this at the San Diego Comic-Con. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for bringing the Baron to life, Joey. It was a joy working with you - and I hope we get to do this again soon.

Hello. I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Sheryl. I operate the Adrian Paul Newswire Blog. I currently show the new WOTV poster on my blog. and would love to follow the progress of this film.

FYI...I'm one of the lucky ones who saw a preview of WOTW at the HLWW9
convention in Los Angeles last month.

Sheryl - I am GREEN with ENVY. I would've loved to have been there. But I'm sure Joe held the fort well.

The closest we got to the HLWW9 convention was our KL office in Malaysia assembled the video clips you saw on-screen.

This looks awesome, can't wait to see it... but...
Have to go for first geek here: a war between Martians and Earthlings is not Interstellar.

The idea is amazing, I hope you can pull it off, judging by the trailer you can!
Are you going for a theatrical release or straight to DVD?

Hi Warren,

Thanks for your very kind and enthusiastic words.

We haven't finalized our distribution gameplan yet, but a limited theatrical release is certainly on our radar.

We're still 5 0r 6 months from completion, but we'll keep you and the rest of our potential audience in the loop.

'Count on it!

Both estimates have come and gone. Any new estimates on when this might come out? Looking forward to it!

Last I heard was from the March 19th blog saying it's expected to be released Fall 2010. Or for a newer estimate, on the Facebook page, producer Leon Tan said on May 9th, "Six months more".

Thanks for the response Lostboy.

I'd add that we're still looking to finish near the end of this year. Their "might" be a further delay of a few months, but that would be very GOOD NEWS as it would involve a significant upgrade in how we would be presenting the film.

That's all I can say about that at this time, but we're hoping to be able to officially announce this option at our SDCC "War of the Worlds: Goliath" panel this July.

Or not, depending on what happens over the next few months.

Joe

This is a bug hunt! The movie will be released in feb...er..apri....ju..aaaaah maybe when there are NO MORE COMIC CONS! Thats all I read about this movie..which comic con it will be pluged at and now Paris? Come on! This crap is getting OLD! I can understand wanting to put out a good movie but at some point it has to come out. There will always be a new animie program or animation method you will never be able to keep up with that. You have a great story unbeileveable cast so stop this crap of pushing the release back. The WORD IS OUT this is going to be a great thing for steamfiction. Just let us see it. PUT UP OR SHUT UP!

Sycojoe, you raise some good points. Let me try to clarify.

We are running late on our movie's schedule, but it's really not because we're playing with the latest animation tricks and trying to incorporate them into the film. It's more about setting out to do a really ambitious, big scale epic on a moderate budget. It's taking time just to get the many levels of animation, EFX and timing required for each scene, up to the high standards we're setting for ourselves.

It's the old "production pyramid"—"Good, cheap, or fast". You can't do all three.
So "fast" has gone out the window. But it will be worth it when the final film is finished.

If you can make it out to our panel next weekend at the SDCDD, you can get a taste of what we're pushing towards.

But thanks for the enthusiasm and for caring.
